For your upcoming appointment, please take a moment to prepare.

  • Bring with you any current eyewear/sunglasses and a list of your current medications.

  • If coming for a contact lens appointment, please WEAR your contacts and bring your own case and solutions.

  • If coming for your annual exam & contact lens check, please arrive wearing your glasses but bring your contact lenses with you.

  • It is likely that your eyes will be dilated during this exam.  You may want to arrange for someone else to drive.

At Mosaic, we strive to be as thorough as possible in assessing your eyes. We aim to exceed the expectations set forth by the College of Optometrists of British Columbia through the BC Health Professions Act.

Scheduling

If you need to reschedule your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. We’ve been experiencing unprecedented demand for eye exams and apologize for any inconvenience in rescheduling appointments. We are operating at maximal capacity to accommodate our patients. Please be patient with us! We try to plan our appointments based on first come, first serve but we do have waitlists for last-minute appointments and we also reserve some time during the week for emergencies.

Dilation

We desire that most of our patients undergo pupil dilation (with eyedrops) during the examination process. This helps us visualize the internal structures within the eye and will thus ensure a thorough inspection. Pupil dilation can affect the vision for several hours after the examination - and even for another day or two. The most common side effect from dilation is light sensitivity. Please bring a pair of sunglasses with you to the examination, and give some serious consideration to arranging for someone else to drive you back from the appointment. If you don’t have any sunglasses, consider purchasing some, or we can provide you with temporary sunglasses to use for the day. If you’re opposed to having your pupils dilated, please let us know.

Safety

Our diagnostic instruments cause no harm to the eyes. We also aim to keep our patients safe from any contagious diseases by keeping the office clean and by following infection protocols set forth by WorksafeBC.

Referrals

If your eye examination results in a referral to another eye specialist, be prepared to wait for the specialist’s office to contact you. This may take several weeks. The time between the referral and the consultation or surgery can be months, or even over a year.

BC Healthcare (MSP) Coverage

The health care system in BC covers a portion of eye exam fees for those under nineteen or over 65 years of age. There is also partial coverage for certain eye conditions, but this is not a guaranteed at all times.

Insurance

We work with many, but not all, health insurance providers. Please see our insurance page to see if your insurer is one that we may be able to submit on your behalf.

Prescriptions for Eyeglasses, Contact Lenses, and Medications

Prescriptions for medications usually require a visit to our clinic. Contact lens prescriptions are not automatically produced at the time of a routine eye examination unless the appointment has been scheduled for that purpose.
